Scope and Focus
Journal of Studies in Civil Engineering (JSCE) publishes original research in all areas. JSCE is published bi-annually by EngiScience Publisher. It is an international, multidisciplinary, double-blind peer-reviewed, open-access journal with biannual frequency. JSCE aims to cover broader scientific research. By publishing with us, your research will get the coverage and attention it deserves. Open access and continuous online publication mean your work will be published swiftly, ready to be accessed by anyone, anywhere, at any time. Article-Level Metrics allows you to follow the conversations your work has started.
Journal Sections
Articles: Articles section is for original research articles that present a scientific advance. These manuscripts should present well-rounded studies reporting innovative advances The conclusions of the Original Research Article should clearly be supported by the results. These can be submitted as full-length article (no more than 9000 words) with an Abstract that should not exceed 200 words. Original Research Articles contain at least five sections:
- Abstract
- Introduction
- Materials and Methods
- Results
- Discussion
Review Articles: Review Articles provide a reasoned survey and examination of a particular subject of research in the field of civil engineering. These can be submitted as a long review (no more than 20 pages). They should include a critical assessment of the works cited, explanations of conflicts in the literature, and analysis of the field. The conclusion must discuss in detail the limitations of current knowledge, future directions to be pursued in research, and the overall importance of the topic in civil engineering. The Abstract should not exceed 200 words. Reviews contain four sections:
- Abstract
- Introduction
- Topics (with headings and subheadings)
- Conclusions and Outlook

JSCE adheres to a rigorous double-blind peer-review policy to ensure the fairness and integrity of the scholarly publishing process. This policy requires that both the reviewers and the authors remain anonymous to each other throughout the review process. Below are the key components of our double-blind peer-review policies:
-
Submission Anonymity: Authors are required to submit manuscripts without any identifying information, such as names, affiliations, or any personal acknowledgments that may reveal their identity to reviewers.
-
Reviewer Anonymity: Similarly, reviewers' identities are kept confidential from the authors throughout the review process. The managing editorial staff will facilitate all communications between authors and reviewers.
-
Preparation of Manuscripts: Authors must ensure that their manuscripts are prepared in a way that does not give away their identity. This includes the omission of any self-citations that are not absolutely necessary or using third-person references to their previous work.
-
Reviewer Selection: Reviewers are selected based on their expertise, objectivity, and absence of conflict of interest. Potential reviewers are required to disclose any conflicts of interest that might affect their review of a manuscript.
-
Review Process:
- Each manuscript is initially assessed by the editorial team for its alignment with the journal's scope and basic submission standards.
- Manuscripts that pass this initial assessment are then assigned to at least two independent reviewers who are experts in the pertinent subject area.
- Reviewers are asked to evaluate the manuscript based on originality, methodological rigor, clarity of presentation, and contribution to the field, and to provide constructive feedback and a recommendation for the manuscript’s disposition (e.g., accept, revise, or reject).
-
Decision Making: The final decision on the manuscript is made by the Editor-in-Chief or an appointed associate editor based on the reviewers’ reports and recommendations. This decision is then communicated to the authors along with any reviewer comments.
-
Appeals: Authors have the right to appeal editorial decisions by providing a detailed justification for reconsideration. Appeals are reviewed by an independent panel or a senior member of the editorial board.
-
Confidentiality: All aspects of the review process are strictly confidential. Reviewers are specifically instructed not to share any part of the manuscript during or after the review process without explicit permission from the journal.
By adhering to these double-blind peer-review policies, JSCE aims to maintain the highest standards of impartiality and transparency in its publication process, fostering a trustworthy and respectful environment for authors and reviewers alike.
Generally, the review process in JSCE follows a step-by-step procedure from submission to publication, as shown in the chart below:
PUBLICATION FREQUENCY
Journal of Studies in Civil Engineering is published 2 times per year. Accepted papers are published online. JSCE is e-published online with an electronic ISSN: xxxx-xxxX as/when the process of peer- review is finalized. JSCE online is published biannually, with the first issue publishing the accepted papers in June and the second issue being published in December. Manuscripts accepted prior to the normal issue period (June and December) will be published as 'Articles in Press,' available online and indexed.
REVIEWER'S GUIDELINES
Manuscripts submitted for publication in JSCE are subjected to double-blind peer review. Double-blind reviewing maintains the identity of both author and reviewer, not disclosing their names to each other. The anonymity of reviewers ensures an objective and unbiased assessment of the manuscript by reviewers.
The reviewer needs to follow the following steps during the review process:
- Accept or decline manuscript review within 2 weeks.
- After acceptance, the link to download the manuscript will be activated.
- Access the online review form and submit the revision.
- Submit the final decision; Decline, Accept, Accept with revision, .., etc.
Reviewers are advised to consider the following important aspects of a manuscript when conducting the review:
- Reporting of Original Results:
The results reported in the manuscript must be the original and authentic work of the authors. They should be devoid of any plagiarism, and the material should not have been published earlier. Studies that report reproduced results, for example, a new clinical trial, may also be considered for publication.
- Experiments and Analyses:
Experiments and other analyses should meet the recognized technical standards and be described systematically. The research presented in a manuscript should facilitate reaching accurate conclusions from the statistics. Methods and experiments, as well as reagents, should be documented in detail.
- Interpretation of Results:
The authors should present and interpret the results and conclusions in an appropriate and comprehensive manner, clearly explaining the results and outcomes of their study. Incomplete interpretation of results may result in rejection of the manuscript.
- Language of Composition:
The manuscript should be written in English in a clear, direct, and active style, free from grammatical errors and other linguistic inconsistencies. All pages should be numbered sequentially, facilitating the reviewing and editing of the manuscript.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Journal of Studies in Civil Engineering respects requests not to have the manuscripts double peer-reviewed by those experts who may have a competing interest with the author(s) of a submitted manuscript. It is not possible for Editors to be aware of all competing interests; we, therefore, expect that reviewers will inform the Editor-in-Chief/Handling Editor if they notice any potential competing interests during the course of the manuscript review. Moreover, the reviewers are expected to inform the Editors or editorial office of the journal if they have a conflict of interest in carrying out a review of a manuscript submitted by any author/contributor of the manuscript.
Article Processing Charges (APC)
Journal of Studies in Civil Engineering provides immediate, worldwide, barrier-free access to the full text of research articles without requiring a subscription to the journal and has no article processing charge (APC).
Plagiarism check
Journal of Studies in Civil Engineering uses Turnitin software to detect the plagiarism percentage; manuscripts with less than 20% plagiarism will be sent to reviewers.
Journal Publishing Agreement
For authors looking to submit their work to JSCE, it is imperative to understand and complete the Journal Publishing Agreement.
